Before we begin designing your home, we spend time with you to learn your wants and needs. We review your building site, its local & regional surroundings and community guidelines. We then review historical precedents for an appropriate style home. This is our approach whether we’re designing a single, custom home or an entire community. The design begins with ideas. As we begin putting ideas on paper in the form of sketches, the home begins to take shape. During this phase we’ll develop floor plans, primary elevation(s) and place the home on the site.
During design development, sketches become more elaborate designs as refinements are made. Rough sketches become more accurate computer drawings and we develop all other elevations. We also develop interior millwork elevations such as fireplaces, built-in cabinetry and kitchen cabinets.
Once the home is designed and approved the construction documents are completed. During this phase we add notes, dimensions and all the details needed to construct the home. This is a process we call Whole House Design – we design the whole house. This detailed approach leaves nothing to misinterpretation and ensures a smoother construction experience. All visual elements will flow together with proper continuity because everything you see in the design is there for a reason.
When the construction documents are complete you’re ready for construction. We’re happy to help in many ways there too. We work with some of the best builders and interior designers in the business and would love to introduce you to them, handle bid negotiations, construction administration/draw inspections and/or construction management. The level of our involvement is up to you.
Our primary service is custom home design, specializing in a classical and traditional approach. We have the expertise to ensure your dream home is realized – not just on paper.
Quality is Kevin’s highest priority. Having a background in home building, he has supervised the construction of homes from 1,500 to 25,000 square feet. He firmly believes a designer should never design something that he or she cannot explain how to build. With this philosophy, he has earned a reputation for high quality design work.
Homes designed by KRA are subjected to several quality control checks at various stages of completion from both design and technical viewpoints. We ensure the original design is carried through to the completed construction documents. We also verify the accuracy and consistency of all drawings.
